It's Saturday, which means I am occupied with watching college football and making sure my fantasy football teams are ready for tomorrow. But that doesn't mean I don't have a few minutes to give you a few thoughts.
So, what can I say about 'The Shining.' It's Kubrick, it's Nicholson, it's a classic horror film, hell, its a classic film. And now on Blu Ray, it looks flat out amazing.
I won't bore you with a review of it. You've seen it. You love it (and if you don't, you should damn it). But wow! I think this is a movie that somehow only grows with time. It's like most Kubrick films in that sense, but it's so different from his other work. And Nicholson just owns this movie. I mean, the guy is flat out crazy and you never really doubt that Nicholson may actually be a little nuts himself.
Blu Ray is a gift from God and improves over regular DVD as much as regular DVD improved over VHS. Every movie benefits from the Blu Ray treatment. I said it when DVD came out, but I have to ask again: What's Next? After seeing 'The Dark Knight' in IMAX, I think we can safely say that is next for actual theaters, but what's next for home viewing? I seriously can't wait.
