Ricky is a charmer
February 17th 2009 08:46
In the last week I saw "Ghost Town", "The Reader", and "He's Just Not That Into You". Ghost Town features British comic Ricky Gervais from TV's "The Office" in his first major American starring role and it is a very nice one for him. He plays a people hating dentist living in New York named Bertram Pincus. After a operation is performed on him he can now see dead people because he died for a few minutes while in surgery. One in particular of these ghosts is played by Greg Kinnear who hangs around Pincus to get him to deter his ex-wife played by Tea Leoni from marrying a snob that he despises. The difficult Pincus finds himself being just a little seduced by the smart Leoni. Gervais is in very fine form here. I was not a particular fan of his Office persona, but he gets to be quite winning here, and writer-director David Koepp who is famed for writing blockbusters turns in a smart and quirky sort of character based comedy driven entertainment here.
I'll give it 3 out of 5.
