Jim Carrey is Funny Again
January 2nd 2009 06:18
I've just seen "Yes Man", the latest Jim Carrey starring film. I wasn't expecting this one to be any good. Jim Carrey hasn't been funny for a while, with films such as Liar Liar and Bruce Almighty falling flat for me. Before that he was quite clever in the likes of Ace Ventura, Dumb and Dumber and the Cable Guy. He's also branched out into serious roles for some critical success with The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. His latest, "Yes Man", is pretty broad comedy fare, but, it moves along quite well and I thought it was pretty cool.
It tells the story of Carl (Carrey) who has lost his zing for life and says "no" to most offers that come his way. He is persuaded by a friend to attend a seminar conducted by a motivation guru (Terrence Stamp) who demands that he now say yes instead of no to life's opportunities. Carl embarks on this new odysee like only Jim Carrey can, and hilarity ensues. Zooey Deschanel plays a lady who is his natural opposite but who he cannot resist.
If you want a few laughs and a pleasing, light and breezy few hours at the cinema I think this film could well do the trick for quite a few.
