Gran Torino

In the last couple of days I've seen Clint Eastwood's "Gran Torino" - he directs and stars in it, and a comedy, "Role Models", co-written and starring Paul Rudd. Both films I'm happy to report work very well.
Gran Torino provides Eastwood with a great character and a story to fit. Watching his grizzly old warhourse of a man interact with those around him after his wife has died and his neighbourhood becomes beseiged by violence is powerful, moving, engaging and also funny at times. What probably makes this film work so well is its fine script, but it also has fine performances from a largely unknown cast who rally around the legendary Eastwood.
For something less serious, the juvenile comedy Role Models works a bit of a treat. Although I could see where this story was going pretty early in the piece - a couple of immature guys grow up and learn some responsibility, it's the prat falls along the way that tickle the funny bone nicely. Jane Lynch is also good as a reformed drug addict who the protagonists (played by Paul Rudd and Seann William Scott) have to serve community service under.
So here are two worthy films, one dramatic, the other funny, in which to enjoy if you can.
